First, the Supp-Le-Milk sow production tool can help you get more milk out of your good milking sows by assisting you in keeping more pigs nursing each sow. Second, with the Supp-Le-Milk program, the more milk your sows can produce to meet the pigs needs, the less supplemental milk will be consumed from the Supp-Le-Cups.
10. WHY SHOULD WE CONSIDER THE SUPP-LE-MILK POWER PLAN INSTEAD OF USING NURSE SOWS ?
The Supp-Le-Milk sow production tool provides a much needed solution for today's producers with good milking sows and large litters. By assisting you in keeping more pigs nursing each sow, more sows will be available to return to the breeding barn helping you to better utilize your genetic costs. Also, in many cases the valuable crate spaces otherwise tied up with nurse litters can now be used for producing more litters.
11. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FOR SUPP-LE-MILK USAGE AND COST PER PIG ?
The quantity of Supp-Le-Milk and milk cost per pig will vary depending on your objectives and how much of the Supp-Le-Milk Power Plan you choose to utilize. Typically your Supp-Le-Milk investment will run between 2 cents and 89 cents per weaned pig.
12. CAN THE POWER PLAN HELP KEEP WEANING AGE UP ?
Yes. The Power Plan can help keep weaning age up. By assisting you in keeping more pigs nursing each sow, it can reduce or eliminate the need to tie up valuable farrowing crates with nurse sows.
13. HOW WILL THE SUPP-LE-MILK POWER PLAN AFFECT OUR PIGS POST-WEANING APPETITE AND PERFORMANCE ?
Consistently, customers report how well their pigs eat and take off on feed better after weaning from using the Power Plan. This investment allows you to increase weaning weights, and appetites of all your pigs, while at the same time saving you money with better post-weaning performance on less complex starter diets!
14. CAN THE SUPP-LE-MILK POWER PLAN HELP US ACCOMPLISH THE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE OF MCREBEL ?
Yes. By identifying and addressing the root cause of starve-outs early on, the need to cross-foster pigs can be significantly reduced or eliminated. Less cross-fostering has been demonstrated to improve weaning weights. Limiting pig movement may also help improve the overall health.
15. WHEN CAN PIGS BE WEANED WITH THE POWER PLAN ?
Weaning age is determined by facilities, pig flow and available labor. Regardless of weaning age, more and heavier pigs with better appetites can be weaned with the Supp-Le-Milk Power Plan.
16. CAN THE POWER PLAN AFFECT THE CONDITION OF THE SOWS ?
Yes. Field observations have reported that supplemented sows wean in better condition, return to estrus sooner, and have better conception rates. This can improve production through increased subsequent litter size and decreased nonproductive sow days.
17. WILL PIGS SCOUR MORE WHEN USING THE POWER PLAN ?
No. If your feeding system is being properly cleaned and sanitized, the pigs should be naturally healthier and actually experience a reduced incidence of scouring.
18. WHAT IS SUPP-LE-MATE ?
When opportunities exist to increase your profits by using Supp-Le-Milk on multiple litters, the Supp-Le-Mate feeding system is an excellent investment in your feeding time and money. Supp-Le-Mate is an easy-to use liquid delivery system for feeding supplemental milk replacer to nursing baby pigs. What this means to you is you can get all the benefits of using Supp-Le-Milk, without the time and labor required for individual litter feeders!
19. HOW IS SUPP-LE-MATE INSTALLED ?
Installation is simple. Producers can install it themselves using the new Push-Fit Tees along with flexible and PVC tubing. Step-by-step instructions are included with each system, as well as professional support is available to help you with questions regarding your specific installation.
20. WHERE SHOULD THE SUPP-LE-CUPS BE PLACED ?
The Supp-Le-Cups are usually placed in the front of the crate since this area is normally the cleanest and provides the easiest access. Occasionally, Supp-Le-Cups are located in the rear of the crate to allow for better access and/or routing of the tubing.
21. HOW MUCH MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED WITH SUPP-LE-MATE ?
Maintenance is minimal. The Push-Fit Tees help provide necessary flexibility for the tubing in the crates, as this area is most vulnerable to damage from pigs or people.
22. WILL WE WANT TO HAVE HOT WATER AVAILABLE ?
Yes. Hot water is important for following reasons:
- Milk replacers will mix more thoroughly in warm water.
- Pigs are more receptive when introduced to warm milk.
- Hot water is used to wash and sanitize the system.
23. HOW IS THE SUPP-LE-MATE SYSTEM CLEANED ?
Cleaning and hygiene is made simple through a centralized valve control panel and reservoir. By just turning valves, cleaning can easily be accomplished in minutes.
To clean, simply rinse the pipeline and reservoir every day with water and sanitizer solution. Every three weeks wash the entire system in place with hot water and detergent.
24. CAN INDIVIDUAL SUPP-LE-CUPS BE SHUT OFF ?
Yes. Supp-Le-Locks can easily be installed on the valve to restrict pig access to the milk replacer.
25. DO PIGS DUNG IN THE SUPP-LE-CUPS ?
It can happen and if it does, the cups can easily be rinsed with a garden hose and spray nozzle. The pigs will keep the Supp-Le-Cups fairly clean if the milk replacer provided is fresh and palatable.
26. WHY SHOULD WE USE THE SUPP-LE-MILK POWER PLAN INSTEAD OF PUTTING PIGS IN A MILK DECK ?
First and most importantly, the Supp-Le-Milk Power Plan can help you get more milk from your genetic investment versus taking pigs away to a milk deck which limits your sow's milk production. Also, this investment allows you to increase weaning weights, health and appetites of all your pigs, while at the same time saving you money with better post-weaning performance on less complex starter diets.
27. WHAT OTHER BENEFITS ARE THERE WITH THE POWER PLAN COMPARED TO FEEDING PIG MILK REPLACER IN RESCUE DECKS ?
- By supplementing the pigs on your sows with the Power Plan, your weaned pigs will all have the same health status.
- It's a better return for your time using the Supp-Le-Milk Power Plan, because the sow's will continue to be taking care of your pigs versus someone having to do this in an artificial environment.
- Your weaned pigs will all look the same, walk the same and have the same body composition.
- Clean up is much easier when feeding pig milk replacer in the crates compared to the extra work of trying to clean it out of the decks.
